uh where you gonna mount the petcock? and how you gonna run the vaccume and gas lines? Looks great but I'm invisioning problems with heat transfer to the tank from the top of the engine

I don't think there will be any problem with heat transfer as seeing that fiberglass is an insulator. I haven't quite figured out where or how I'm going to mount the petcock but I don't think it will be to hard. This reminds me I need to find a good looking gas cap that I can use.

I got one of the squarish ones of a 80 GS tank if you want it.

Those are cool looking. Plus if you're bored you can polish it into a little mirror

Hadn't checked this thread in a while but it looks good. It looks pretty big too lol. What ~ are you planning on gallons? I might have to try this soon. I'm just afraid that after supplies and man hours invested, it might be cheaper for me to just buy a new one. I suck at fiberglass tho.

I don't know what the actual gallon capacity will be. Some of what you see won't hold gas I will have to raise the bottom a little bit so it doesn't hit on any thing. As far as it being cheaper to just buy a new one I would have to agree. most of the reason I'm building this is because I have been wanting to do a fiberglass project, and I want to have a tank that will actually work with the looks of a gs.

I got the other side shaped tonight. It actually went pretty good and I still have all my fingers. \\/ I think the next step will be two put a few layers of fiberglass on the foam so that it will be a little easyer to get it smooth.

I do need you guys help with on part though. I've been thinking about making a mount in to the gas tank for my gamin, But I can't decied where I should put it.

The first way would be to flush mount it in to the tank itself.

The second choice is to have a separate mount that would allow it to sit on the top of the gas tank.

I don't have a picture of the third way but I was thinking of making some way to hold it in front of the gauges. So what do you all think. If I do flush mount it into the gas tank I was also thinking about making enough room so that I could also have a digital gauge cluster also molded in.

Flush mounted into the gas tank would be the coolest way, but I would keep it up near the gauges, mounted so that it could easily be detached for safekeeping.

Flush mount would be cool.... but....... for safety reasons I'd recommend mounting it up with the gauge cluster. You don't wanna be riding down the road looking down at the top of your tank rather than out in front of yourself. If your going to all the trouble of molding a new tank why not mold a new gauge cluster and go with all digital gauges.

I like the flushness clean and sexy look.

                              Flush mount gauges

I like the idea of flush mount gauges. It's really clean. If you actually use them though, it might be kind of a hassle, especially if you wear a full face helmet. I'm pretty tall though so that migh be part of it for me. I keep a map in the clear opening of my tank bag and it is really hard to look at when I'm going down the road. Even for a quick glance. Typically you want that stuff in line of sight. Again, it's a matter of looks or function. Maybe you could wire a heads up display in to your helmet .
