A Rattle Can paint job
Here is a link to some pics of my 78 gs400 with a rattle can job. Turned out nice for under $30. If I can figure out how to directly put them in the thread I will.

Here's a rattle can job i did on a tank. I thought it looked good, but as soon as gas touched it, screwed.

My best friend did it for me with Rustoleum...lots of coats and lots of sanding!
It's been curing since at least December. I dripped a bit of gas on it, but wiped it off right away. It didn't effect anything. Hopefully it stays that way for a while.

Gas spills seem to be a real problem on home-done paint jobs. To my knowledge there are no clearcoat products in a spray can that are up to the job.
My own solution, prior to having the tank resprayed by a local bodyshop, was to use a tankbag 100% of the time. The paint by the gas cap got screwed up but the bag covered it. Pretty slipshod, led to the professional job. Ten years later though, I have to have it done again.
