    Looking for graphics

I'm trying to find a "Suzuki" logo using the same font style as in my avatar. Any links?

Lookit ma - Suzuki 'S' style fonts!

I just dropped it into /usr/share/fonts and voila! the GIMP can use it.

For Windows I guess you drop it into
    C:\WINDOWS\Fonts

This is going on the bike fer sure.

I contacted Mike about the fonts to thank him for his excellent work. Since he had mentioned that the fonts were free to use for private & non-commercial use only I also asked about requirements for commercial use. His response is below.

If you'd like to use Zook for making graphics to sell, all I ask is that you make a one-off donation of whatever amount you like to your nearest Down Syndrome Association (or whatever the equivalent is in your part of the world). The reason I nominate this as a charity, is because we have a daughter with Down Syndrome, so it's something I like to see supported!
Very generous of you Mike. Good on ya!

I wonder......would there be any call for some graphics using this font set? I really like it alot. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

I'm not entirely sure how to best go about transferring an image to vinyl (or your material of choice) other than just doing it by hand. Ideas on that?

3 ways to get it going. A. find a printing shop with a motorcycle fan owner. B. try to do it yourself and see how it goes. C. find someone not in the sign biz that used to do stuff like that. Although, anyone connected with the graphics biz will tell you that when you enlarge type to the point where it becomes graphics, the "kerning" and some other aspects are usually in need of adjustment to turn it from okay to outstanding. I'd suggest looking for a hungry sign shop near you with a young to middling staff. Show him what you've got and ask for suggestions to alterations in the size you hope to end up at. If you get a blank look, or a "looks good to me" response, you're not gettin the good stuff.IMO there needs to be spacing corrections in your logo, and the "Z" could stand a little tweaking. Then again, I was a left handed sign painter and didn't get into vinyl when it got widespread in the early 90's. So, I could always be wrong.

Thanks for the kind words there, ggreenfield. :-D

And PAULYBOY is right when he says that the 'Z' isn't quite right, and could equally be a '2' or something else... but may I plead my case, that doing the entire alphabet in the style of the iconic Suzuki 'S' was veeeeeeeeeeery difficult. #-o The 'Z' actually occupied a lot of my time, and I wasn't very happy with it no matter what I tried -- so if anyone has any suggestions for how to tweak it, I'd be grateful.

            Cheers,
            Mike.

Thanks, Mike. I looked at the logo in different sizes to get a feel for the lettering and the only conclusion i came to is that a "Z" would obviously by rule have to be close to a backwards "S". All typestyles use different rules, guidelines, parameters, however you want to put it. Once you find the key, altering any typestyle to turn it into larger graphics is pretty bulletproof.
The only other thing I'd suggest is to play with the thickness of the letters other than the beginning "S", as well as their size. Any fancy typestyle using all caps as graphics gets very muddled and thus hard to read. The best example can think of is the car clubs, mostly low riders, that insisit on still using "olde english" type in all capitals. It takes forever to read, and thus becomes boring, losing all of its impact.(no offense to any lowriders out there, much less any of my hispanic friends. I love both things dearly, lowriders and hispanics)

                  Like so?

A fellow penguinista came up with this (I did not). I think it looks pretty nice. Simple and to the point. Maybe it could be added to the fonts?

What about the "U" To me it seems a little wide. Any opinions on that? If I had a single bit of artitstic talent I'd try to narrow it up some but that's not working out too well. I'll keep at it.

Hmm... something like that could be a goer. And in the context of the word 'SUZUKI', yes I agree the 'U' could possibly use a bit of narrowing.

Let's see what other suggestions come out of the woodwork, before I fix the next version of 'Zook'!

                    Cheers,
                    Mike.

That U is exactly as I had envisioned it. \\/ Can it be done in svg? I think I can work with it if it's in that format.

Now I did learn today that just down the street from where I work is a graphics shop and they're bikers to boot. So...perhaps tomorrow I'll head over there and see what they can do for me whether it's just a vinyl sale or even cuting out some letters.

This is turning out really cool. Much like FOSS (Free & Open Source Software) where everyone contributes what they can and everyone benefits. IMHO the end result is just that much better for it.

If I get this logo looking nice (and I think I can with what's been provided) I'll see what I can do to provide some stickers for anyone that would want some be it for your bike or just to stick anywhere.
