Does not work for me but neither does an L model. Dan

If you could straighten the bump out there. make it more flat, it would look like one of the Cooley seats kinda. I think THAT looks pretty good.

        It depends

I think from an aesthetic standpoint it's really ugly. The question is, what do you plan to use it for? Honestly, That looks like a pretty damn comfortable seat. If it was going on a bike that I planned on racking a lot of miles on to, I'd run it in a second. If I was putting on a bike that was going to be in fashion show...not so much. I guess it's like a fat chick. fun to ride, you just don't want your buddies to see you.

Well, I've got an L and the stepped seat kind of annoys me. The riding position is a lot better now that I swapped handlebars and lowered the brake pedal (used to be 2cm above the peg :shock, but I still think being back another couple inches would help.

It looks bloated to me. But if comfort is your main concern...

It looks like dooty-squat...but it does go nicely with the roto-tiller handle-bars...... (where's the 'WindJammer'?\\/)
...but it's not my ride. :-D

I like your bike (a LOT!), but I'd go a sportier direction...but I don't get to ride it, you do...so it's an owner thing.

            :-D...nice bike!

The "roto-tiller" handle bars are the stock bars for that bike. That's the way they came on the '78 GS1000E, and I'll keep them on it along with the stock seat for a somewhat original looking "Skunk". That new seat was going to be for my OTHER '78 GS1000E which I'm modifying and customizing now. It will be sportier looking (1150 front end and clip-ons), so I agree, that seat is just too bulky. I'll keep it for the pan and have something custom made on it.

I know those bars are the 'stockers'...I had a '75 Z-1 and the bars seem that they were probably very similar, and I called them the 'roto tiller' bars.
Seriously do like your bike, though...I was just jabbin' ya with the 'bars' and 'windjammer' stuff...comments from the jealous section!

                PS> Is your swing-arm a GS1100E unit?...looks good.

No offense taken! :-D The Skunk is what it is.

Yes, the swinger and chain guard is from an 1100E.

...But those bars gotta go Bruce. It's the only thing hurting the look...and that new puffalump seat.

I like my stock bars. Back before the crotch rockets came out and we went to lower bars as a whole, no one had a complaint.
The bars are so comfortable and ergonomically correct it's hard to replace them. So I haven't.
And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!

Hurting the look? What's it supposed to look like?

                          Hey, not throwing stones. :-D
The GS's in other countrys all seemed to get the lower handlebars from the factory. Here in the USA, we got the taller bars. Since the GS1000 really was a "sport bike" in it's day, the taller bars (to me) look odd.
If you were keeping everything stock they would need to stay, but since you've already got a few cool mods going on, a set a superbike bars would look (and feel) really nice.

Has anybody mentioned how ugly that seat is yet?? You must be spending too much time on rally prep and have lost your mind. Go have a beer and take a break. And please, please, please put the camera away until your sanity returns.
