    narrower then stock rear tire

was looking for new tires and pirelli doesnt make sport demons in the stock 140/90-16 but they make it in a 130/90 how noticeable would this be over stock. any benefits to keeping the stock width tire setup versus narrower and vice versa?

    i would not go skinnier....

less tire on the road means less grip..

I'm not aware of a GS that took a 140. What model are you talking about? For most GS bikes a 130 is pushing it, but acceptable, considering the narrow wheels used during the era.

Not sure what model you have but my 82 GSX1100 is fitted with 100-90x 19 front and 130-80x18 rear as standard.

so we could say its safe to assume the PO added a wider tire cause every online store lists the 130/90 for a replacement

Yes, the PO must have put that tire size on there. The 130/90 is the correct tire size for your bike.
