I bought this bike off a mate who was going to pull it apart and put the motor in a buggy. I had no idea what it was till i got it home and did a check on the compliance plate.
The wiring had been cut to peices and there were different model switch blocks atempted to be wired in.
After locating the multible wiring diagrams needed and a lot of help from Mike from theflyingbanana.com i finaly got it started.
I was suprised how smooth it run once warmed up.
Now i know it runs i have striped it and sent all the parts to be sand blasted and powder coating.

Finished the wheels and had the new tyres fitted. The gold is a bit dark for my liking but im not going through the taping again.

Go Shedman!Looks like you've got a big job in front of you.I've got an 'S and absoloodle love it.Are you going to bring it back to original?WELL worth the effort if you do .You're a legend in my book which ever way you decide to go.Another back from the abyss.Cheers,Simon.

Thanks,i will build it back to original or as close as posible. The motor is the next step but luckily all the questions about cleaning and polishing have come up in all in one go. All on these pages.
This web site would have to be the most helpfull tool in rebuilding a bike.
Now all i need to do is learn how to put more than 1 picture at a time on to a page.

Project GS1000ST

Finally got it to a rolling frame, starting to take shape.


Sorry for the photo of me but my wife thinks it sums up the enjoyment of finally getting to sit on your bike for the first time (Plus the stupid look of having a few to many beers)


Almost finished striping all the paint off the motor and brake calipers.
Im sure the previous owner painted the bike rather than cleaned it. Pics will come soon.

That's great. What a find. I'm slowly getting my GS1000 (not an S) sorted out. I've ridden it just enough to know that I like it. Keep up the good work, it's really rewarding when it all comes together. What are you plans for the engine?

I started and run tested it before pulling it apart and it ran well.
I just want a good reliable motor. I am only doing cosmetic work to the motor.
This bike and the other one in the photos (1980 GSX750)will be our main transport when we travel around Australia in hopefully 2 years in our converted motorhome.
So it will be restored to be riden.

Have finally got all the wiring finished and it actually started tonight
The carbs need balancing and i have to find the proper switch blocks but to see it running was so sweet.

Bike is looking fantastic Shedman. What kind of fork brace is that? What color scheme are you going with, red or blue?

To get good large pics loaded, do the following:

1) Open photobucket account (free) and upload pics of your bike.

2)Once they are uploaded, underneath the pics will be a line that says "IMG" code. Left click on the line and then right click and copy.

3)Copy the IMG into your post on GSR. Be sure to preview your post to make sure it came out. It will help you to have seperate tabs opened for photobucket and GSR so you can just tab back and forth. Should come out like this:

If you're looking for the red/white version decals, let me know and I'll hook you up with my man over here. Blue/white is available from a few different places, but the red/white isn't..... except from the guy that made mine.





Very good that you've decided to do a nice restore on it. Wish I had an original S to do mine with. I started with an old standard model with E forks. Will look good in the end though.

Finally after waiting nearly 3 months for the decal kit to arrive ( no fault of bd designs it was the postal system) i was able to send it off to the painters.

Shedman, there is no shame in admitting to being a Kiss fan...says my 12 year old nephew.
Nice looking bodywork. Great to see another S resurrected.
