It seems that original S models have the headlight a little further back from the fairing opening, too. I know mine did. I made a couple of small extension brackets out of 3/4"x1/8" aluminum strap, drilled holes in both ends mounted in the factory holes, it pushed the headlight forward to fit the fairing flush. Looks like you have plenty of room to maybe do the same. Painted black, you hardly even see them. Nice bike. Looking forward to the finished pics.

Very very nice rebuild. In those decals where the colour next to the black striping red or orange. Couldnt tell Thanks. When you travel home my place is a stop over.

theres is a rubber strip (actually 2 parts upper and lower) that goes between the headlight rim and fairing i assume to allow for vibration
without this theres about 1/2 inch gap

you can kinda see it on this 80 model i have and see gap on the 79 where its missing

No rubber headlamp trim on either of the two S's I've owned. The parts fishe for US market bikes doesn't show anything either.

I spent a couple hours today fitting the fairing on my current S project bike. The upper fairing brackets are made of cheese and are easily bent. I wound up taking the fairing on and off at least a dozen times to tweak the upper brackets until I was happy with the fit. To bend the brackets I took a piece of 1/4" steel and drilled holes so it could bolt onto the brackets and bend them while keeping the two ears parallel. It's critical that the fairing is NOT putting stress on the IP cluster surround or it WILL crack. I've yet to see a cluster that wasn't cracked at least a little out near the windshield area so you really need to be careful here.

I think ill do the same, I have another ST as a parts bike and a SN in worse condition than this one was and all the headlight brackets are the same. Neither are full bikes.
It looks to far back to leave it.

Truely FANTASTIC!!!!!

How do you find the time to even enjoy looking at 6 of them???

I'm looking for the litre+ bike (yes a GS) and would love to find an S BUT, I'd be nearly as happy to add a perfect L to the collection... now to find either in a low mileage platform that needs loads of TLC and I'm set.

Both seem to be quite elusive around here. Those that I have found are either basket cases or are way out of reach for another piece of garrage art.

After 3 years its finally together. I put some fuel in and fired it up first go.
One of the floats were sticking so I'm going to fix that next week.
The GS and GSX are entered in a show today and typical its raining, hasn't rained in bloody months
