turn sigs, whats the third wire for?
Hi I'm looking to replace the god awful turn signals on my GS with something more discreet. Many after market sigs I found have 3 wires. Anyone know what the third wire is for?

Thats all I could think of also. Maybe I could rig some kind of explosive device to activate when the turn signal is utilized, as a sort of anti-theft device.

You may also be looking at a dual filament turn signal (each filament has its own wire) with a third ground wire. I have signals from a GS1100 installed on my GS1000. The stock GS1100 signal comes with two wires (one per filament). In order to get them to work on my GS1000, I had to cap one of the filament wires and add a third ground wire to run into my harness. Just a guess.

CraigS is probably right. All the dual filament automotive light sockets I can remeber seeing had either 3 wires or 2 and grounded to the body upon installation. The same as most of our bikes having 3 wires to the rear light- brown for brake, blue for tail and black/white stripe for ground, if'n I members right.
