Should I? Opinins plz - new GXSR wheels on old muscle?

Local lead on 2000 - 2006 GSXR1000 wheels, rotors, sprocket, tires, and calipers for US $500 to go onto my braced 1980 GSx750e with 79GS1000e motor... I should mention that I've already scored the 199? GSXR 1100 front end and a fat noname swingarm.

I REEEEEAALLY want(ed) to use some wide wheels spokes but haven't found em or their parts, yet. Plus I haven't yet broken out the photoshop and visualized spokes on the newer suspension (USD) set up - who knows it might look like ass.
Is $500 too much cake for these parts?
(If my mother knew what I was doin with my inheritance she'd be rollin over in her... ahmm, urn.)

    Gotta get this puppy rollin...
I know it can and has been done... but how much do these paarts usually go fer?
    Thanks, JC

That's not too much money, probably about average. Gixxer wheels in good shape usually go for about $200 a piece on eBay. So $100 for the extra stuff isn't too bad.

How do you put wire spokes on cast Gixxer wheels?

Well, that's what I mean, see?
I want(ed) to do spoked wide rims (see here http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...d.php?t=112569) but the hubs have to be carved out from scratch I guess to fit the GSXR front end - or sumsuchcarp...
I've got a not too local company which tells me that they're lookin into CNCing some hubs for this "rather commonly sought after application" but slow going for them makes slow goin for me.

      Thanks for your input.
      More?

Easiest would be to use the stock Gixxer wheels obviously cause everything bolts up with no hassles....

If you want the spokes look, you might want to then look at using something other than those late model GSXR wheels. They're all one cast piece so removing the three big spokes and the hub would make the wheel collapse.

        How did Pan do it?

The chopper scene has some pretty wide wheels, maybe you could find a 5.5x17" spoked rear and a 3.5x17" spoked front rim? Then you'd have to make it fit in your swingarm and front end. Anything's possible with enough time and $$$.

Well, what i really meant was GSXR wheels OR spoke wheels - not some concoction of the two. (How do you spell concoction?)
Fitting spoke wheels to the GSXR front end is the challenge thus far...

I would research this site more, I know its a pain but I'm not sure 2000+ wheels and rotors are compatible with 90s something front and rear ends. $500 is ok price if they do fit and way high if they don't. Also check out Katmans site

Gsxr 1000 wheels are NOT a direct bolt in to gsxr1100 forks

you may have problems with the swingarm too for similar reasons depending on what it originally came from

Good info. GSXR1000 no go to GSXR1100
I mean that sort of matters right?
I think I sort of knew that once... but lost in the details.

                Saved me you know.
Was chucking up the money tomorrow.
Proper planning prevents poor performance - or somethin like that.

                Love this site!

you want a gsxr 750 /1100 wp front end . slots straight in .bearings ,stem everything including the lock stops are the same

rear end ....1200 bandit .this way you can either go with a mono conversion or you get lugs welded to the arm for the twin shock set up.

I think the GSXR 1000 wheels are 6 inch wheels in the rear with a 190 tire. You may want to ask 80GS1000 to make sure since I believe he as a set of 04 wheel on his bike. If I recall correctly, he had to do some serious mods to the hub and other parts to make it fit and align correctly. Just do your research before getting the wheels. My suggestion would be for you to go with a GSXR wheel not wider than 5.5 with a 180 tire. Good luck on your build.

Dont bother worrying 80gs he's hopefully busy building another cracking bike lol

Here's some of the differences larger spindles on the 1000 wheels, different ofsett on the front discs around 14mm on a slingshot 11 & virtually nothing on a 1000, 5.5" rim on the 11 & 6" on the 1000 hub centeres are a different width, rear brake hanger is totally different & thats just for starters

                              96 1100 rear wheel, 05 swingarm, Issues?

Question, I will getting a 96 front end and using a 05 swingarm, now my wheels will also be 96 so I am not worried about the front end but what about the rear. 96 real wheel axle with 05 swingarm. Issues? What to use.
I may be thinking to use a bandit swing arm instead of going mono swingarm. Thanks, in advance.
