        Bruce, to give a truely honest assessment, I think you should SEND ME the black finned covers with the shiney edges. I would need to see them mounted on my bike for say...a year or two. Then I can give you my advice.

            When you polish out the tips like that... do you have to worry about the rest of the black paint chipping or flaking off or do you do a clearcoat over everything to hold it all together once you're done painting and polishing??

            I've wanted to look into painting my engine as well, but never knew how well the paint would hold up. I've painted car engines before and it was always hit or miss if the paint would stick... even when I used high-temp paints.

            Was thinking it might be better to powdercoat the engine then polish the fin tips so long as the polishing wouldn't cause the rest of the powdercoating to come off.

              What kind of paint did you use on the engine??...rattlecan? It looks awesome!

                I used Duplicolor gloss black engine enamel, properly prepped and primed (I hope).
