Thanks for the complement. I am attempting to prove (to myself) that a "custom" bike can be built on a shoestring (read non-existant) budget. Haven't done much new on the bike recently, been real busy w/ side jobs, etc... I'll keep pluggin away though, cheaply though.

Taking off the gas tank emblems, filling them in,attention to detail, shiny paint, a well redone seat, low profile fenders and turn signals, and these old bikes can hang with anyone's.The rear fender is always too high off the tire.Lowering blocks are not available.I wouldnt think hard tail would be comfortable, but it sure looks good.I ride a low 1200 sportster and it looks good too.But hit a dip and you almost need back surgery.

          Bars/fender struts...

Picked up a cheap set of bars, fitted up the fender struts, stripped the tank back down to rework a couple of the flaws. Not much, still pluggin away...

                Tag bracket...

Two days off, two sick kids at home, dryer went out, but was able to bust this one out this afternoon. Old sheet of heavy guage aluminum, jigsaw (on the kitchen counter by the way) and voila! Still needs to be attached to axle adjuster and painted...

All depends on the condition I guess, so many variables. I just picked up this 81, 750L Sunday for $100! Rode it around the alley before we loaded it up... I'll be strippin off the parts I need and sellin off whats left. Went to buy just the carbs, kid said gimme $100 and you can have the whole thing, Ah sure I said.

1100 shaft motor SHOULD bolt right in to an 850 frame. From what i've gleaned, they are one and the same, so long as they come from 82 and up. (there was no pre 82 1100shaft, and they used a different block than the previous 850 blocks, so bolt ups might be a problem there)
