Band/Gixer Conversion (week 2)

    Tire 1= 100/90-16 Tire 2= 110/70-17

    Sidewall height: Tire1=3.54 Tire2=3.03 Difference= -0.51
    Section width: Tire1=3.94 Tire2=4.33 Difference= 0.39
    Overall Diameter: Tire1=23.09 Tire2=23.06 Difference= -0.03
    Circumference: Tire1=72.53 Tire2=72.45 Difference= -0.08
    Revs per mile: Tire1=873.58 Tire2=874.48 Difference= 0.9


    If your speedometer reads 65mph then you will actually be going 64.93mph with a difference of -0.07mph

        I have not confirmed this, but Katman told me that all the Suzuki speedos readout the with the same sensitivity. In other words RPM/MPH is the same (cable speed to needle deflection) so the variation in wheel size is adjusted in the speedo drive unit that is on the axle. As long as you use the one that goes with the wheel you are golden .

          Good info Jim, so a front bandit wheel needs a bandit cable basically?

              Joe,

              Bandit wheel would need a Bandit speedo drive (under that theory). I don't disbeleive Katman on this just dont know how widely it applies.

              If it is a 17" wheel, the 2nd gen 17" Gixxer wheels should have the same speedo drive gear ratio, but not sure they work with bandit wheels.

              Anyway that is what he told me, I can't confirm any of that yet but we have spoken on the phone specifically about this sort of confusion and the fact that there is no reason to "recalibrate" a speedo if you use the right axle mounted speedo drive.

                Just my .02, I have a complete 94 GSXR1100 front end including speedo drive and 17" wheel. My stock 83 GS1100 speedometer reads 10% faster than I am actually going. The cable itself is compatible with both the speedometer and the drive unit at the wheel.

                  Have some spacing to address but a brief mock up of the rear sets. The brace on the ZX12R sets is there (I think ) to allow for the spring operation of the master cylinder. Some simple spacing will allow it to pass behind the plate and mount up perfectly.

                    Joe, the return spring does go behind the mounting plate. You will need a spacer washer that's about 1/4 to 3/8 inch thick for that rear upper bolt. We have Tru-Value hardware stores here in New England. Mine carries a display with an assortment of chrome fasteners. They had the perfect chrome washer/spacer for the application in their display. Don't really need chrome cause its hidden but the size was right.

                    Your going to need two spacers for your swingarm pivot bolt also. I used a brass hex nut from the plumbing department on both sides.

                    Your getting there, now if you would just quit buying other distractions.

                      Yeah the spacing is an easy solution, as far as the swingarm bolt, I ordered a new one for an 83 Katana from Bike Bandit. It fits perfectly with one small washer because the Kat rear foot peg mounts are set back and attached directly to the frame so the bolt is shorter and fits flush, its not snug in the picture.

                      I know I know...I just couldn't stand it anymore I needed my ride fix!

                          with regards to the swing arm pivot bolt ...you could also push it all the way in with a washer in place ...measure the bolt side ...thread it further along the shaft and then trim it off shorter allowing for a washer and bolt on that side...seemrd to do the trick on the one im busy on .
