    High heat rattle can paint?

I'm considering a cheap way to paint my engine and exhaust pipes black. Is there a cheap rattle can brand that can take the high heat of the engine and exhaust pipes? I see a lot of mate black engines and pipes, I want 'em too . -nick

i sprayed my exhaust with sperex UHT paint. not one flaw in it so far. cant say for the engine cuz mine isnt painted, but i'm sure if the exhaust can handle it the enigne will.
mind you its all down to preperation for a good reliable finish

Can't beat this stuff. It's an Aussie product but it's used by NASA.

VHT spray paints supplied by Speco Thomas Pty Ltd, Melbourne, Australia, distributor of high quality auto parts, spray paints and gauges for the automotive aftermarket

I've used it on engines, exhausts etc. and it works great.

VHT is available here..... I used the manifold paint with Ceramic that's generally available (think it is VHT) at Kragen.

For Engine paint the PJ1 stuff that Z1 enterprises sell is fantastic stuff!

So, am I to assume that I'd be ordering some cans of something online, that nothing I'm likely to find at the hardware store will work? This bike is pretty old and thrashed, I'm mostly looking to cover up rust, just coat the sucker is something that won't fall off real bad . -nick

You can find high heat "barbecue" paint almost anywhere, but it doesn't hold up very well on a bike.

Most larger auto parts stores carry VHT or PJ1 exhaust coating products. Try a "real" auto parts store, not one of the places that hires surly teenagers...

I have had good luck with Barbecue black on my exhausts. it was not a real long lasting paint but my headers have to come off for oil changes so I scuffed em down and recoated them each time.
For the engine on mine I used Gun Coat, it was a heat dispersant coating, dark grey in color. Not sure if the still have the bike line of products still. They had header coat also.
I think the powder coating industry has taken the market away from them.

all of the above mentioned worked, I have used all with no complaints. The grill paint does have to be done atleast once a year.
VHT has my vote out of all of them for exhaust
PJ1 has my vote for the engine
I didn't read all post completely but a good auto caliper or engine paint works great to.

That PJ1 is the cats ass. Goes on smooth, looks killer, and from what ive seen lasts better than the high temp ceramic based stuff. One thing ive noticed with the ceramic on motor parts or places that might get hit by road debris (headers, forks etc) it that while it dries nice and hard, and resists heat fantasticly, it CHIPS easily. The PJ1 seems to have better elasticity to it, and doesnt seem as brittle. Tho it WREAKS untill it cures, usually a couple heating cycles of the motor or headers...

I went to True Value Hardware and got some 1500 degree paint that has been great for my exhaust.

                      Pj1 all the way
nothing works better on engines & the exhaust paint beats sperex for staying on every time (i ride all year in all weathers so thats a consideration for me) preperation is the key

heres one if you like the matt black ratty look blackboard paint sticks to everything exept the very top few inches of the downpipes, it burns off there

The local Shucks (same company as Kragen) sells VHT stuff. Will that work on the engine and exhaust? They've got a mate black that looks perfect for my needs. If that stuff is good, I think they've got a primer as well. Is my best bet to clean the hell out of everything as best I can, primer the sucker and then hit it with the black? -nick
