Yeah, you two need to take it outside, just kidding.

I have the swingarm and caliper hanger pulled out for you Ray. I just have to find a box for it. I'll find one tomorrow at my mother-in-law's house. I started cleaning out her attic today and there are plenty up there. My wife's dad passed away six years ago and he had the attic crammed full of crap. It'll take me 3 or 4 more days to go through all of it.

Sorry for the hijack too Joe.

" RODNEY KING " Said and he's not the sharpest tool in the shed !

" Can't we all just get along " I love to read the ALL the information before I try and repair my GS... Some correct and some not, but at least I learn more about the do and do not's. Iv'e ridden / repaired bikes for 30+ years and by being a member here I learn somthing new everyday. My 85 GS700ES does have the allen head hole in the cap/plug/whatever but is unuseable. Clip ?? All I see is rust ! LOL I'm thinking about just getting another pair of forks and bench rebuild them so I can ride..

Rode about 8 miles yesterday (While it was snowing/flurrying) crazy I know but being from Ca I just want to ride!

Gettting back to this swet looking GS700ES I still would like to hear it !!!l

It's not really an allen key hole just a dimple. There is a clip that is supposed to keep the plug in place then rust holds it in place. I'd be willing to bet your fork oil looks like mud.

Billy is correct, it is a dimple used as a guide to compress the fork spring down so that you can release the c-clip. You could try soaking it with some PB blaster to free it up. Unfotunately mine were beyond that. If possible try and save the clips, they are no longer available from Suzuki.

Finished the valve adjustment today, some what tedious but not as hard as I anticipated. Hats off to Steve and his infinite wisdom, narrowed my starting issues down to a lame battery...

                        Joe,

Any chance you can post the "recipe" on your seat. I can't find it anywhere. What material is that? Presumably you had them add white piping.

Did you get them to do any foam work?

                        Cheers,

hi joe, i went through a new battery on mine, i found the wires were dirty and broken going from the rectifier, and the box under the side panel ,you might want to double check the connectors, i know you bike is restored but it seems some how riding, and vibrating (bumps) ect... worked them loose

                            Dan,

I sent the seat to sargents and had them recover it. The seat areas were done in CarbonFX and the rear and center panels in a matte vinyl black. The piping was added in white for an extra charge. The foam was in really good shape but when the strap was removed it left a groove in the foam so I had them cut that out and reinforce that area with a new piece.

Thanks mate. I will be stealing the FX panels I think... How is that material to sit on?

As well as soft foam I'm also dealing with slippery surface. Yours looks much better.

Question is now whether I buy a spare to mess with or take the bike out of action & mess with the one I have

                                Dan,

Excuse the late response, the seating material grips quite well and seems to hold its form also, time will tell.
