Is it simply that the (typically) wider wheels fit radials better, or is there some other reason?

    .
Modern forks have way less travel than the older bikes. The radials soak up much of the initial jolt so the suspension doesn't have to work as hard. It can be set up stiffer due to the compliance of the radial. Less travel is also something to consider when people worry about ground clearance with the shorter forks. You're likely to end up with about an inch less travel anyway.

Just got my hands on a full 1993 RGV 250 front end tonight... as the bearings are the same size, turns out it is the exact front end i photoshopped in, just somebody has put some big 6 pots on her.

I also did a whole heaps more work to the picture, changing the frame to red (already painted red in real life for something different) and done the usd's black etc to make it go together a bit better...can still tell its photoshopped to hell but oh well

Enjoy, going to try fit the darn thing tommorrow

so the 93 rgv 250 front end bolts right up to a 82 gs650g? i have an 81 gs650gl that i'm doin a cafe-ish out of and was wanting to find a front end that would go right on w/ minimal alteration because while i want a better suspension so i dont kill my self (stock front end does not even have an air assist on the forks) i don't wanna loose the ability to return the bike completly to stock. somethin bout not wanting to be responsible for frame modifications or have crap resale value if i decide to sell it down the road. so think this type of front end would do the job? is there a front end that will bolt right up and perform well?

good luck, i'm deffinitly curious to see how this works out for you

Hey mate it wasnt a straight bolt up but close!, same bearings.... but i had to cut the steering stem and lengthen it by 9mm to get it to fit through the frame so it could still be threaded on...

I put a 16mm rod up the middle also...

And drilled 2 5mm holes in the stem an inch up from where the cut was made, and 2 more 5mm holes an inch below and filled them with weld to link the centre rod up more... More solid than a solid thing.

heres a piccy of it in the bike... i will try take a pic for ya as it has to come out yet to paint them stem so it doesn't rust.

            Enjoy...

i'm still new to the cafe type stuff so i'm really curious cause i gotta do somethin with my front end. how much does it lower the front of the bike? how would that affect handling and such?

Hey ,Skiddy. You didn't say you were doing a little Kat.Looking good old mate. Can't wait to see how it comes together.I haven't done much with my 650 E .Still deciding what to do with the 2 rooted engines I've got.I've got it all stripped ready for the blasters so I think I'll get the rolling frame done and go from there. What are your plans for the back end?? Sorry, but I'm watching how your's turns out before I leap in.Cheers,Simon.
