    Actually you'll need both fork legs from the "E" model as well as both disks, the standard model mounts the caliper slightly higher due to a slightly larger disk. If you can find the parts it's an easy swap.

      That's actually a 1978 model, just like mine. The indentation in the tank and tail side, the black air box and the choke lever on the carbs is particular to the 78s

      Your spokes look pretty rusty. I had mine redone with stainless spokes from Buchanons, laced by a local guy.

          The GS 1000 alloy rims are made by Takasago - I finally went down and checked mine now that this thread has bumped up

          As for better brakes, this is the way to go, along with stainless brake lines
