Acorn Nuts
Hi, I'm looking for an online supplier for chrome or stainless metric acorn nuts. I want to replace the 3 nuts that attach the rear drive unit to the swingarm on my 1980 850g. The dia is 10 mm but has an odd size fine pitch of 1.25 which all of my local nut and bolt shops do not carry. Any suggestions? Thanks TedTags: None

Look around here......don't know if you'll find what you're looking for but they have alot of really cool stuff and their shipping is fast, fast, fast.

You'll need to get JIS flange nuts, which are difficult or impossible to find in chrome or stainless.
You can get SAE metric nuts in stainless or metric with the correct thread, but they'll have a 17mm hex instead of 14mm, and they won't fit the space available.
Maybe you can get some OEM nuts and have them chrome plated?Last edited by bwringer; 01-15-2009, 05:15 PM.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

The OEM acorn nuts that hold on the upper end of the shocks are chrome and have a 10mmX1.25mm thread, but they have a 17mm hex.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

But the problem here is that they won't work as final drive mounting nuts -- you can just barely get a socket on there as it is with nuts that use a JIS 14mm hex. 17mm hex nuts simply would not fit in the space available.
Sometimes you can substitute -- the 8mm thread nuts you'll find in hardware stores, for example, have a 13mm hex instead of the JIS 12mm hex with a flange. Most of the time, they'll fit.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.
