Motor clean up.

I saw a post a lil while back on how to bring the shine back to the motor (ie the clutch cover). I've searched and can't seem to find it. I remember the starter of the post said he used 800 and 1000 grit wet sand paper to start off but thats all I remember. Can anyone help me out?

I tried that too but those posts didn't come up. guess i DON'T know what i'm doin. Oh well.

I'm debating now. Polish the crap outta my side covers or Paint them. I've seen a lot more bikes w/ polished motors than painted. I did see someones GS that was painted an orangeish color w/ a black motor. I liked that but I'd like to see more pics of ya'lls motors (polished and painted).

First remove the clear coat with a spray can of paint stripper. Takes 20 minutes and beats sanding it off.

Wash the parts and dry them off. Start with 220 on any bad scratches. Then go 320 on the spyderweb lines that form under the clear.

I then take 400 and wet sand it top to bottom like the original. you can also use 0000 steel wool for this. 600 is as fine as I go since I prefer the satin look it originally has.

Finally use lacquer thinner to clean the part and immediately clear coat with clear engine paint.
