The 80 gs1000 chopper build

And this bike is STUPID fast! I never had the pleasure of trying it out before i got carried away with it. Hell i never even got it to run on its own before i decided to cut it up.

I got it to turn and fire for a second the night i got it but that was with help of spraying pure fuel through the carbs just to make sure the engine wasnt seized up.

Now that im on it, i think i should put on a seat belt cause when this thing winds up, it becomes quite a feat to hang on!!!

The bike sits at 40" at its tallest point so it looks pretty damn small but DAMN, the engine makes up for its tiny chassis!

THIS, my friends, is gonna be a good summer!!

My suzuki is the same. Take a 700 lb cycle and get rid of 300 lbgs of stuff it tends to be a lot faster. LOL. I have surprised a LOT of bikes at stop lights and mine is a 750 with a bigbore kit

I had a 1200 shadow twin before this bike and i thought it had power. The inline design on these bikes makes for a torquey ride. This thing is totally nuts!! I would be happy with a 750 so long as its inline (no thats not a trade invite )

Everyone looks at me like im crazy when they ask what kind of bike im building. The only was i can decribe it is, as a chopper with a crotch rocket engine, cause well...... thats what it is!

I would be surprised if ive lightened the bike for any more then fifty pounds but it sure seems like it only weighs 100 lbs as it is now

I see these guys installing turbos on these things around and THEY'RE nuts!!!

I love it so far cause it sits so low, it feels like Your in control of the Bike, not the other way around. It just gives into the turns like its begging for more! Freakin great!!!

This thing should be a blast in the twistys on the rocky mountians here this summer.

Speaking of which, anyone know where to get the new front brake resavour at? Mines....um..... gone from dry rot,

That's hilarious. I bought my bike as a non-runner too. The guy I bought it from didn't know much about about bikes and his Hillbilly neighbor was his "mechanic". The neighbor rolled up on some kind of Harley clone Japanese bike, straight pipes and all, while I was talking to the owner about the GS. He was talking to me about it and said, yeah, that GS is okay but it'll never be as fast is this one" as he pointed to his clone. I smiled and handed the owner the money.

Just fer giggles, anyone know a rough quarter mile time on an 80 gs 1000 shafty?! Im sure its pretty good.

Durring the summer time here in denver, the local track opens up for a "test and tune" night every wednesday. I think they still do that. If thats the case, ill hit it once to see what she does.

I can totaly understand anyone questioning my sanity for installing a turbo on my '80 1000 hardtail. But running any bike without a front brake? Now that is the definition of insane!

I love the sound of a turbo just as much as the next guy, but the sound of a squeeling rear tire as it tries to gain enough traction to stop me is music to my ears too

Z1 has got all those parts and pretty good prices too. Ive ordered my Steering bearing, Progressive fork springs, new fork seal kit and wheel bearing and everything has shown up fast as hell.

You should jump on a modern day sportbike..It will scare the sheet out of ya!! Makes the ol GS's feel like sleds...

All z1 has is the rubbers (which ill get from them) but i still need the actual semi transparent clear reservoir.

Ya see i figured if i got a street bike,( this gs is no longer a sport bike even by 80's standards ) i could salvage my poor driving record. Ive lost my licence a few times and just got off a probationary licence for a heavy right foot. And that was in trucks. My wrist seems to be a little more heavy.

I was actually hoping this bike wouldnt be that fast for this reason

That and i know i'd kill myself on a sports bike. As much fun as i'd have....... better not.

how much of the wiring did you have to cut out or replace. my wiring is all shot and if I can get away with running a few less I will. Can you mock up a diagram for dummies?
