    78 GS1000 Roadracer seat rebuild

My 78 GS1000 Roadracer, "HMCS Dreadnought", had the seat pan rusted through at one of the hinge mounts. So I've welded it up and cleaned it up a bit. I'd have just swapped it out for a home-grown plank, as that fine with the VRRA rules, but the AHRMA demands original seat pans for vintage superbike, and I've got a dream of taking it down to Barber or Daytona at some point.

It's far from pretty, but won't be seen and should last just fine. I've got some new foam on it from the upholsterer, and will be testing out the fit shortly.

I've got a HELL of a lot better 1000 pan just sitting here if you need a solid one.

Hit it with a wire brush and a good coat of 'rust guard' type paint and it will last another 20 years.

Nice! That shaping is exactly what I've been looking for on my Skunk... Where are you getting your cover made? Maybe he can make 2, save us both some money!

I'm getting it done by Jerry at Got It Covered here in Ottawa. He did the foam shaping, using as a guide the bread-knifed original foam that I had from last year. He also riveted on a plastic strip to use for stapling as the original spikes have gotten pretty thin.

Next step is overlay and then the custom cover. I can ask him about doing another cover if the cover's all you want. I'll PM you my contact info.

                    Something like this?
I've only seen 1 other by ZERO
Not much under the cheeks but does supply some support from sliding off.

Looks great, looking forward to seeing some pics of it fitted.

                              Very nice, Richard.
Did you get it done locally or did the guy in London do the refurbishing?
