Would i be able to take the muffler_exhaust off of an 1981 gs550L and put it on a 1980 gs550L.

That's a good question. I'm pretty sure the '81 is still the same engine, I'm unaware of any other differences. You might get a better idea by looking at the online fiches at bikebandit.com. -

Is that what's on your bike now, a 4 into 1? It originally came with a 4 into 2 system. I checked the diagrams at bikebandit and the two years are somewhat different, the mounts are different and they go together differently. The '80 system appears to be compatable with previous years.
I don't know if the '81 can be made to work or not, the rear mounting tabs are on the top as opposed to the bottom on the '80. The '81 looks removable. The '81 does share the two valve head with the previous years, as opposed to the TSCC engines. Good luck.Comment
