Anthony, you might have a 78 skunk hiding under there

It does have a 78 tank, but without the airbox (black) and carbs (choke lever on the side) I can't tell. Wasn't the GS1000E side badge a 78 item?

I'm really glad to hear you're planning a restoration rather than a parts sale. These machines have a lot of life designed into them.

            A '78 tank, a '79 title, and '80 side covers and tail.
What does the "Mfg. on" date on the steering head plate say?
A great collection you have there, Anthony.

I saw the title and just had to link this

But I will tell you this, the BLACK engine is WAY faster than the silver engine.

Seriously you take two of the exactly same bike one with the BLACK 16V and another with the silver 16V, no contest, the BLACK 16V will waste the silver engine bike.

How are you going to get a 13 tooth 530 front sprocket to keep the chain off the swingarm? I don't think it will clear. Also, everyone with experience KNOWS the black motors are faster! LOL!!! Ray.

Ray is definately right. 13 WONT clear, it will drag the swinger. 14 wont clear either. This i know from trying it.

It is already on the bike. It is close but not touching. The bike is strutted and it also has 8in over extensions welded and we shimmed the sprocket out 5/8 of a inch maybe that has something to do with it, also there is no play in the chain what so ever. my dads friend charley sobiech who worked for c&w in Florida did not believe it either until he saw it in person. the side of the frame had to have a little touch up with the grinder but that is it when I get a chance I will send you a pick
                      anthony

p.s. charley said I was going to have to shift as soon as I let the cluch out. what do you think ? he also said the proper gear for the bike should be a 3.0
