Since I just happen to be rebuilding/painting my VM29's this thread came at a perfect time. I had 3 of them dipped, cleaned, and painted but I never heard of boiling them so I tried it on the last one. Holy Crap! I got so much more junk out of it ,now I'm going to start over on the other 3. Thanks for the tip.

After boiling are you relubricating the butterfly sleeves by adding a drop or so of oil?

These are VM carbs....no butterflies. But a good point. Some carbs have areas that need lube after boiling OR dipping.

Thanks for the sizes Renobruce! I don't know if you can torque the aluminum ones down to prevent leaks. I may try to find one and give it a go. I'll do the top cover hole. If it breaks off, it should be easy to "easy-out". Do you remember if they are considered coarse or fine thread? Thank you again. I love this Board!

The bolts dont need alot of torque so you should be fine. The thread pitch on the bolts is 0.7

Good source for any size metric hardware www.boltdepot.com

I purchased stainless allen socket heads for the carb in-take boots.

                  .50 each.

Back near the beginning of this thread Bruce was showing the VM29's he worked up for me. Red, of course!

I thought some of you might be interested in seeing them on the bike. Here they be!

Great look Tom. Carbs turned out real well.

Hey I was just noticing that Fairing; What kind is it? U got a 7" headlamp on there right?

                      Not a Ducati is it?

Tom - I would paint the brake brackets red to match your calipers (I know that 1 is still black because of your problems.)

I painted mine black on both bikes now to match the calipers & it seems to fit in better rather than trying to match them to the fork leg.....
