Made a little progress today. I think no matter how I do the other side panel, the tank is going to end up as the star of the show. I don't even know what I wanna do to it yet, but its going to be crazy!

I made a little progress last night. Today was spent filling out applications for work. I tried a different water technique that I'm not too fond of. I wish I'd of done the water the same as the other side.

No painting done today due to rain, BUT!!! I found a flattener for lacquer clears carried locally thats only 31$ a qt. I thought I was going to have to adhesion promote the color for a urethane clear and hope n pray for a failure to NOT occur.

Finished the base on the tank. That was a LOT of work. This tank was in rough shape. More photos to come.

No divots from old paint and missing and/or bent metal. I took it all down to bare metal and bondo'd where necessary. I know this is parts of the bike that no one will see but me. I think when its all put back together this will make a big difference in the finish.

I was going to ask what part that was, but then I saw the second pic and it all makes sense now. Your bike is definitely unique. Personally I think a gloss clear coat would look better. Three or four coats should bury your graphics nicely. Those colors will really pop all shiny. Are you going to clean the paint off the screw heads on the engine?Last edited by nvr2old; 11-25-2009, 09:36 PM.1979 GS1000S,

Thanks for the compliments too! I guess I'll have to really stare at the finished product for a while before I make a decision about that clear.

Fender is done. I haven't worked on it much at all in a long time. Started a new job, painting bikes actually...lol. By chance a neighborhood body shop needed someone who wanted to paint bikes and I was sick and tired of A/C so I called em out of the blue. It just so happened they were looking. Talk about the Lord working in mysterious ways!
More pix to enjoy, if you're enjoying this thread.

The bike is really looking good. I would like to hand pinstripe my bike. Do you have any experence in this area? Could offer any advise? Keep up the good work and post it.
