    Just bought a swing arm for 25.00 bucks for my 81 gs 1100e,down side is it has rust color streaks probably from battery vent and lots of what looks like road tar, I have tried everything I have at home to clean it up with no luck,has anyone tried sandblasting,and will it ruin finish.Can I buff it out after???

    AIrcraft stripper, then sandpaper, then a buffing wheel... it will look like chrome when you're done..or you cna just shoot it alu silver again..

      I had one that was pretty bad...stained with battery acid and bad corrosion. I used the aircraft stripper and then sanded....alot! I actually used a D/A sander where I could at first, then progressed up to finer grits finishing off with 2000 grit wet sanding by hand. Then I polished it with a buff in my hand drill. I have since obtained a proper bench polisher, but it turned out fine the way I did it.

        OK Bruce, quit showing off; That is the pic that convinced me I just can't compete ; What a relief there are bigger GS nuts than me ; can I go back to the garage now?

        I know that was alot of work.

        The bottom line with aluminum is with time you can make it sparkle. You just don't know how long it is going to take yet.
