Its been over a year since I started this project, and a lot of money.....
but I am just short of complets...one tank badge and 2 screws and its done...thescrewsare ot be in today and then fini....Hopefully I can post a shot or two.....

Guys,
This job..nah not a job labour of love for mechanical things....has been over a year...at least 15 months.....when I started it had been in storage for about 5 years while I enjoyed a ST1300.....
When we took it out of storage it was the usual GS set up for touring...Vetter with a set of lowers....a luggage rack with a backrest. I later added a set of Givi Bags very nice indeed....with the addition of the ST the GS was put away to rest....filled the gas tank, crankcase to the top..... all the connectors under the tank got a shot of silicone and under a cover it went.
Early on a while back my infirmities started catching up with me again and IU wanted another bike I could ride easily around town...wife disagreed and said you could get your GS out and strip all the stuff off it.....
I did not believe my ears so I agreed.....and away we went....At home I have what I call "Old Guys Garage"...and within there is a place to make any GSer happy as if he had good sense..... lift, aircompressor, tire changing and balancing stations....heat and airconditioning....and a full complimeent of tools most by Snap ON.....It s 16x24 in size and did I for get the refrigerator replete with a bevy of drink to make any one happy...soft and hard drink.....{ taken in moderation} up on the lift we put the poor old GS..it looked the prt of a bike that had been in storage too....dust everywhere and too many cobwebs...
To begin we stripped away the fairing,the luggage rack...and got down to business.....drained all fluids...gas & oil motor and rear end.....Knowing full well the carbs were toasted they came off and parts to soaking....I started by making a list of things I thought I'd need and set about getting them......plugs, battery it was gone....oil,filters shaft lube.....
Back to the carbs, re-assembled them and to my amazement the old boy fired up....this was encouraging to say the least.....So onto bigger and more important things....the motor covers slear coat was shot years back....so off they came and out to Finaltouch.com to be powdercoated...these folks did a fine job forme....
I really didn't want to get fully involved in a frame off resto but I wanted to spruce the frame and motor up....so each was painted independently of each other.........While waiting on the motor covers I polished the fornt forks and the rims too........work got in the way of this project over the winter and as Spring approached I canned the job crap and got back on my GS....family stuff not withstanding and a few distractions like breaking 5 exhaust bolts sortta slowed me down but not by much.....thanks to "Time-Sert" these guys specialise in broken bolts.....complete kits for the repair of broken bolts.....now in the late stages of this project I lookto spending time with what has been my favorite bike of all time....
