Looks great Steve. I'd skip the buffing unless there is orange peel in areas the photos don't show. You done good!

Snatch the paint gun from my hand, Grasshopper...Way to go, Steve. Patience got you to this point. It would be a real shame not to finish it the way it deserves...just sayin'...

Absolute stunner there, dude! I know the temptation of slapping it together without buffing it out. FWIW, I fought the same temptation and lost when I painted my GK. Fortunately, I'm pretty good at rationalizing too and will be disassembling the bike this Winter to color sand and buff all the painted parts. If I were in your shoes, I'd get it together and ride it.
        NICE JOB!!!

Common sense has become so uncommon that I consider it a super power.

        Present Stable includes:
        '74 GT750 Resto-mod I've owned since '79
        '83 GS1100E (The best E I've ever enjoyed, Joe Nardy's former bike)
        '82 GS1100G Resto project

You can sand while disassembled, but without an extra set of hands (and they will get pretty messy from splatter) you need to assemble for buffing. The tank you can do off the bike, but the small parts will get pitched from the buffer and you'll be painting them again.

Just a heads up. You may already know this, but if you don't I'd hate so see you learn the hard way.

            Eric,
LOL . . . I really think you would want nvr2old's painting services but I am sure he has a waiting list since his GS1000S project showed up on our GS Forum. I am suprised his project didn't make the August BOM

You're pretty close to me and I know for a fact that you get better each time so mine would look even better! Is that even possible?
Or at least could you get me in touch with a stencil kit or measurements for the stripping? I have painted quite a few cars/ trucks myself.

                Ed,
Thanks again for all the advice & help you gave me.

BTW, I started talking with Ed last year when he posted pics of his GS850 paint job. I didn't have a clue about HVLP spray guns vs. mini guns etc but he directed me to Spray Gun World were I picked up a quality mini gun kit. That's what GR8 about this GS site, someone always willing to help out

LOL Larry, That's too funny . . . boy for a old blind guy your GS1000S paint job sure turned fine! What sense do you depend on the most? Actually I just finished up sanding down my gas tank again and this time all the fisheye divets have disappeared and the entire tank surface is nice & flat and ready for the final round of clear tommorrow.

                        Tony,
Thanks for the thumbs up. I am not sure how it will look when it's all together but I didn't want to copy the US GS1000S blue & white paint scheme considering it's just an E model. Some times you gotta take chances

                          Willie,
That's what I hate about the painting process. Your parts looks ok one day but you know you need to sand down to make it look better. So yesterday it was shiney, today it's dull again. Hopefully no bugs will fly into it while shooting it.

                              Hi Eric,

Regarding the striping measurements etc I was able to offset all the stripes you see by just using that Scotch 1/4" blue plastic tape. Rudy sent me a Pdf of the Aussie GS1000S paint scheme which included all the height & width dimensions to locate all the stripe starting points, radiuses etc. I think Sharpy supplied him with all the photos. I just measured the distances with a D/C and ran the tape between the points. The photo belows shows how I used the 1/4" tape to maintain the offset stripe distance. Remove all the small spacers of tape and you have a finished stripe that lines up pretty good. I can send you Rudy's Pdf if you want, it was quite helpful.

Have not seen Rudy on the Forum? He did send me pics of his Red & White GS1000S. Came out sweet. Sorry about the big pic, I uploaded the wrong size
