    1981 GS1100E - mild mods

Thanks a bunch to this website for this project and a few others!

A project engineered by a friend of mine, lost interest after some expensive hot rod motor issues.

stock motor from a 1982 GS1100E, V&H pipe, Dynojet carb mod, Dyna ignition, carbon fibre signals, 1988 GSXR750 front end and wheels, Bridgestone Battleaxe tires, 3" stretch on the stock swingarm, Kosman offset drive w/Vortex sprockets

Looks good . I'm sure that is a big help handling wise for that big E .

              Lots of ???

Can you measure the forks to see how long they are. (top of tube to center of axle). I know the 86-88 1100's are 30.25". Are yours 41mm?

              Having any ground clearance issues?

What did you have to do to mount stock clocks and lights to forks? I see you went to clips ons. Got pics of the upper triple?

How did you do steering stops?

Intersted to see where you run those pipes? Outside of the shock mounts?

I just mounted my 3 spoker in the rear today

I like the look of undertail exhaust.
Do you have enough room? Longer shocks/different mounts required?

looks like a std gsx arm to me.... the 1100ET's had the same box section arms as the katana's and EX's i think.... 750ET's had tube arm like the older GS's... (well, GS's in the UK - in the US you weren't allowed to use the X in GSX were ya )

looks like a std arm with extentions welded in to me

i think the V+H looks way better than the underseat pipes . they dont really fit with the overall muscle look that youve got going on ...if anything do the seat over to the 2-4 guilliari style and that whole setup totally looks like its gonna slam you in the mouth standing there

                    you know it makes sense

Stuffing those twin pipes under your rear end might call for a new rear tail, maybe off the yzf-r1? it does change the look of your bike and the square headlight would have to go

Good luck with what you're going for Jeff; don't let the cynics hold you back! I personally am interested to see how if it can be done and if so how it looks.

I doubt you have room to route your exhaust under the seat using the stock swingarm. There just isn't any room near the pivot. what might work however, is using a GSXR mono swingarm and keeping the dual rear shocks. There is an opening for the mono that would go unused and you could route the exhaust through that.

I thought about it when I built the 1100, but decided to keep the mono instead. Maybe one day I'll convert back to dual rear shocks and give it a try.

You'll need to custom fab an exhaust, but I think it's possible using a monoshock swingarm.

Then again, with 3" of extension maybe there is room. I personally like those braced swingarms though.

Routing the exhaust outside the frame rails is a bit of a bad idea. It gets really hot and you or your passxenge might get burned bad right along with any plastics. We're not even going to consider how to route around the rear shocks. That would be a nightmare.

You need to keep it routed through the swingarm and tucked under the seat between the frame rails. It's not just for asthetics.
