Gs1000e 1978
Newbie here. I just bought a GS1000E and I need a gas tank. The 2 that came with the bike are rusted out. One has 2 holes and the other has a liner that is peeling. Are there any other years that would fit my bike other than 1979? Any other models maybe? I heard someone say that a GS850 tank would fit, but you'd have to pound the underside to fit. Any help would be great. Thanks.Tags: None

You holes can probably be fixed, how bad are they?

77-79 750 will fit as well. I recently saw a 1000E with a 750B/C tank on it, no modification was needed. Will look a little more "period correct" than an 1100 tank, IMO...

The tank was sandblasted and they poked 3 holes in it. The whole tank is rusty inside and out. If I had the skills and tools to fix it, I would. But, since I have to pay for it, too much money to spend on something that is not in the best of shape. Trying to find something that is not discontinued but I doubt that will happen. Found a new tank, but they want $700.

I have a '78 GS 1000 e with an 1100 tank on it..Doesnt look goofy at all, in fact it looks pretty much like Tom MLC's '80 model. The side panels and hecktail are different, but has a similar shape.
