Not much too update, went to the river this weekend so didnt have much time to work on it. I got some 1 3/4 exhaust tubing with some 45s on the ends for some straight pipes. I mounted them in the stock location. I also wrapped them in header tape. Its gonna take me 2rolls to wrap all the way back. I also broke 2 studs off taking the bolts outta headers.

What did you do with the stock exhausts? If they weren't totally rusted out, I know some people would love to have them.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

Been trying to do a little a night on this thing. Its to the point where you work alot, but it doesnt show. Alot of grinding, welding, and grinding again.
Heres the New single tube backbone. I put a slug in the top, and its a piece of DOM. You can also see the rear brake resvoir mount.

I wanted to clean up the bars a little so i moved the light switch in the headlight. I figured that would be a good spot for the low oil pressure light too.

Edit: Guess i shoulda finished through the thread before posting all this.... oh well.
Quick food for thought, I used my fender on the rear too..... wich looks sweet!!!!!..... and mined mounted a touch further back then yours is.
The only problem i found is ANY water i run over gets directed straight to the back of my head. And thats just like sprinkler runoff hardly making the street wet. Im excited to see what a good sized puddle will do.
This goes along with small rocks. I tend to get on the gas hand alot not that this 1000 cc is breathing at full force. That warms up the rear tire a bit and tends to fling more tiny rocks at me. I actually find it pretty entertaining. I cant count how many times ive gotten somewhere and hav run my fingers through my haie and started pulling out rock after rock.
I dont care what anyone says, chicks DONT dig that
If i were gonna do it different (which i might this winter) i woulda added another two or three inchs on the back, or raised the fender up a bit more to catch the water. Yes it does take away from the looks a bit ( our taste anyways) but at least you can ride in the rain a little without having a skunk line up your back. Heck, ive even had water trickle its way down my..... um...... crack. WAKE UP!
I mounted my fender by welding a section of angle iron across the seat from left to righjt, and cutting one side out to the countour of the fender. Then i welded a thick tab on the frame on each side. The fender slides under the tabs and bolt to the frame there. Then on the very front of the fender i welded on a small peice of angle pointing forward, welded a nut under the swingarm and made that my second point. It surly will not support a second person, but i built a solo bike for a reason.
Also, make sure you have your fender go all the way to the swing arm. This way all that water thats nailing you in the back cant make it to your battery, fuses, relays, wires and whatever else you stuff under the seat.
Wow. long post. Sorry.
Anyways, good lookin bike man. Keep up the good work.
