    tank swap question

Ok guys I am gathering parts for a cafe project gs650l and what I have in mind is using a Honda CB tank to go with the cafe look. I know you are all cursing me right now but the stock tank just doesn't look right to me. My budget doesn't allow for an aftermarket tank or I would just buy one of those. Has anyone done this swap before? Thanks for any help.

Off the top of my head Id have to say no. Its not gonna be a direct swap without some work. If you like the look of the GS1100 tanks, theyre really close.

Ive done as many measurments I can with the help of a few members with access. Im sure someone can give you the years this style tank was used. I like it due to its size. Its a 6+ gallons and has the knee cutouts. With a proper paint job, this tank would look pretty good on a Cafe.

so....what would you suggest for a paint scheme outside of stock? (for the tank)

Blacks, Silvers and Reds were used a great deal on some of the older Cafes. But I have to admit, Im still a huge fan of the Johnny Player Special scheme. I love the Black as a main color with Gold trim and lettering. Classic and subtle at the same time. There were a lot of "National Pride" scheme from the late 60s and 70s that were nice as well. I always wondered about the Green in the Italian schemes. Did the Italian racers feel the same about using green as other racers?
