I think that for most folk here the thing that 'gets' them is that good condition bikes are getting hard to come by. Modifying a bike that most people would like to own 'as is' can be hard to watch. Every one that get's chopped, raked, cut, slammed etc is another one lost.

On the other hand, modyfing a bike that is in deperate need of work doesn't 'raise the hackles' quite so much.

Yes, it is your bike but to a crowd of enthusiasts it can be tough to watch. It would be kinda like me getting an original '32 Ford Roadster and saying that I was going to build a Hotrod out of it.

99% of the folks on here will be pleasant to you and offer good advice but only 50% will agree with you (if you're lucky).

      Peace.

I can understand to a certain point that some of the people on here don't like to see something original and nice to get cut up. I can understand that, to a certain point. But, let's face it guys, our bikes are old and out dated, way behind the times as far as technology and I can't ever see our bikes being worth much of anything at all.

Look at it this way......If you have a nice bike, and YOU, (not the population of this forum), decided to keep it 100% bone stock, then GREAT! There is nothing wrong with that (I wish I had one......). But everytime one of these losers like myself cuts half the frame off to make it a drop seat bagged lowridin good for nuttin but showin off piece of crap rat bike, the value of your machine goes up just a little. Because now there is one less perfect Suzuki out there.

I've never owned anything that I haven't modified. I have a fab shop, just so I can modify and build my own stuff. If all I did was ride stock 30 year old bikes, life would suck. MAKE IT YOUR OWN (even though it's your dad's, HEHE)

          What's the Ford worth, 30-80k?

That bike's worth about 2 grand, maybe 3 in perfect original condition.
          And even thats a push!

I've said it before and I'll say it again.
Anyone can restore a bike to its original condition, it takes skill and imagination to build it into something else.

                2 points -

                1. I did say 'kinda'. I was just tryimg to make a point.
                2. The Ford has had 50 years headstart. I bet they weren't worth sh!t in the 1950's.

That's garbage too. Most of the peole I know wouldn't have the first clue how to restore a motorcycle. It takes a huge amount of skill.

if the guy wants to lower it, then fitting shorter shocks and dropping the forks up through the trees (i am getting used to the american lingo now, lol!!!!) and fitting a suitable exhaust to suit the lower bike then he is not really destroying a perfectly good, classic bike.
you could probably restore it back to original spec in less than a day.

Now Joe, I can't believe a guy who has done extensive mods to TWO bikes such as yoursef would say such a thing......

If you have a fab shop, you probably do good work, and at least finish a project to being road worthy. I don't have any trouble with that, although I'd rather see you start with one less pristine.

So many of these hacksaw wizards just cut things off, dick with it a while, lose interest, then leave it out in the rain to rot forever. Craigslist is littered with the remains.

Also, many of us see the half baked results that get posted on craigslist when the modder runs out of money and time, reducing what was an exellent example to a $100 parts bike.

I'm no purist though, and it's your bike. Do with it as you please.
