See Octain you apparently dont look much past what your idea of "a nice bike" is. The "cafe" of mine you posted actually HAS all the modifications done to it. Frame bracing, fork brace, updated suspension, engine modifications....etc etc. Its FUNCTION vs form. *I* made the fiberglass tail, myself, with my own two hands. I didnt buy it from airtech or any other number of places you could get one, and everything on the bike was done by ME. I dont give two chits whether you think it "looks pretty" or not, the bottom line is it DID WHAT IT WAS DESIGNED TO DO: Be light(er)Go fast, stop better, and be highly flickable. So, crack away on it if you wish, crack away on the "HVAC" strap (its light, and it was available at the time to do the job it needed to do...another "cafe" feature) the bottom line is its more a "cafe racer" than half of these bikes you keep posting up.

Then again, maybe, just maybe, if you spent your time actually turning wrenches on your bikes, and riding them, instead of posting up threads on a SUZUKI forum wondering why "everyone hates Harleys" and the like, you just MIGHT understand the beauty of something that performs better than it looks... Just my thoughts though. By all means, carry on however you wish.

Ok so now I am really confused
So far we have a cafe has to be
(1) light(er)
(2) fast(er)
(3) better handling
Than stock, cool no problem with that.
Now there is also a rule that you have to make the bits for it yourself? Who said and why?
What is the difference between an after market seat and an after market fork brace, or clip ons, rearsets and what about a swingarm?
A lot of people w@nk on about store bought bolt ons, but if it makes the bike light(er), fast(er) and better handling what is the problem? why is that not cafe?
TCK I don't mean to single you out, it is just you are one of the more vocal members here when it comes to this sort of thing.
At the end of the day for better of worse these bikes are *someones* idea of a cafe, and seeing as there is not some rule book out there, opinions will differ....

Not mine but I thought enough of it to post a pic here.

It was a great thought, and a great looking example ("apart from the frame colour") of cafe racers. I'd black the frame, exhaust & tank pin stripe then sign write the tank with a pair of white border checker flags each side

Pretty disapointing that TCK, tkent02 and Grandpa couldn't help but pee on it, but dogs will be dogs and when one finds a shiny wheel to piddle on, the others must follow

Lots of dick-waggin' here. I think both bikes look great and are probably fun to ride. First one looks lighter, more spare, but the second looks more carved from a block. They're both nice.

I don't build sh!t, but I appreciate people's efforts. I like to ride (for a constant 40+ years) and they both look fun....pretty much it.

When the original purpose of a form was purely functional, those coming along after trying to look as cool as the original cool thing are really just posers. The same thing happened to Harleys, rat bikes and cars, skateboarders, surfers, boobs, anything. Those who are into a thing for the function naturally have disdain for things that try to have only the appearance of function.

That said, the cafe racer functional form did spawn a cafe racer aesthetic. Like many others, I like how they look. On the other hand, poser rat bikes look silly to me. When you get right down to it, though, the cosmetic cafe racer is a boob job. Whether or not you like the silicone is a matter of taste.

When it comes to peanutbutter, who likes smooth and who likes nuts? Seems to be alot of nut busters in this thread.

If every bike looked the same and had the same parts, motorcycling would be very boring. I feel to be a true motorcyle enthusiast, one must be able to appreciate all types of bikes even if it isn't the style one prefers. Bottom line, all of us love the thrill of two-wheels and the smell of octain burning!!!
