Beautiful job, Ed. Makes me want to tackle the repaint on mine, once I get the whole engine issues sorted out (like replacing it).

Looks great! I've been following the progress on your album, and I'm anxious to see it all back together. I remember seeing an aftermarket exhaust. Are you sticking with that or going back to stock? Also, did you lay on the dry decals to get an idea of where the color breaks were, or did you adjust them to fit the stripes after you painted the tank? Inquiring painter minds need to know..1979 GS1000S,

One of the first things I did before stripping the factory paint was photograph where the two tone break lines fell. During the painting process, I did dry-fit the decals to guide me further. To be honest with you there are some flaws in the decal's, or maybe I should say my application of the decals. The factory decals were vinyl, so they can be more easily stretched, but the Reproduction Decal's graphics are very thin and I found them hard to work with on some of the curved surfaces. Of course, now that I'm up the learning curve, the project is done.Last edited by Nessism; 11-03-2009, 09:52 PM.Ed

Nice work Ed. I have a set of the Reproduction decals for my 700 and figured the decals needed to be applied to a wet surface like window tint. Still need to paint mine so it's nice to have that confirmed since they didn't send any instructions with the set.Last edited by Guest; 11-02-2009, 09:26 PM.

Hey Dan,
Thought I took some photos that day we set up the "paint booth", which showed your parts, but for the life of me I can't find them. Messed up on that one for sure.
For you guys reading this thread, Dan and I painted our parts pretty much side by side. Dan's dad came along and brought beer too! Since "mistakes" only occur when you F*ck up TWO times, I shared my "learning experiences" with him so he didn't have to go though the same things; after learning the hard way about runs with the HOC clear I told him to lay it on a smig dry and after my tank fell over on the ground (Dan thankfully wasn't there for that), he taped off his stuff on the underside to make sure that wasn't going to happen to him. Smart man.Last edited by Nessism; 11-03-2009, 09:40 AM.Ed

IIRC, I had just finished my ED 1/4 fairing and it was the last piece. When trying to move it i got my sleeve right in the paint and screwed up the pearl. There was no way to salvage it; had to strip the whole thing and start over.
Your parts look great now , so we can just mentally block that period of frustration and chaos .
