    Off to the Powder Coater

Well I've been pretty lazy all summer. Bike was rear ended by a pick up truck and totaled by the insurance company around Memorial Day weekend.

Here's what I want to get back to.

Here's what the pick up truck did to it (happened with original body work on thankfully)

I've been driving the FZ1 all summer and fall which is part of what's been slowing me down from the re-build. Spare bikes are great but you loose some incentive.

Here's some pics of the pieces that are going off to the powder coater. Frame is an 83 in actually very nice shape. Engine was pulled from it by a drag racer and he was selling off parts ($175), local to me, so no shipping. Title was good and frame is registered already. Except for small section of the lower cross member where battery acid got on it, it is in pristine condition.

Paper pattern you see on the frame is for new rear set mounting plates. Old ones are fine but mounting holes are different from 82 to 83 frames. That part is going to be a pain cause I'll have to call in some more favors from my buddy.

Here's one more pic of the Yosh header which will get ceramic as will slip on mid pipe (not can), that's a new used ebay bandit rear wheel in nice condition , the GSXR 1100 front wheel that was on the bike and crash bars, that did what crash bars are suppose to do. Worth their weight in gold they are. The front wheel had been painted black enamel over the original GSXR purple by previous owner and was flaking off in places.

I'm thinking of having the oil cooler powder coated with a gold color close to the Ohlins shocks

The rest of the pieces will be gloss black with the header satin black ceramic.

The Z1 under the cover is on deck for its upgrade.

I just have the lowly Gen1 that I picked up in 01. Funny how many GS owners have them but not really surprising since I think they and the modern bandits are the GS of the present. One of the best two up sport bikes ever made.

Mine has 85K on it now and still looks just as good as the photo and still lifts the front wheel under moderate acceleration in first. For those looking for a spare bike they are giving FZ1s away now days.
