    Krauser Saddlebag Installation

I have aquired a used set of Krauser saddlebags, with the intent of installing them on a 1000G. I'm not certain what they were originally on. They have quite a bit of mounting hardware.

I'm pretty impressed with the quality of the components.

Anybody have any photos or information on how the frames are suposed to be mounted?

    Mounting Frames

I had Krausers on my 1978 GS1000 and the fittings are the same for my 1981 GS1000G. Unfortunately the Krausers were replaced due to age with an Australian manufactured set of panniers. However the mounting seemed to be very similar.

Using the top of the shock absorber, the rear indicators and a bar to the rear foot peg loop. Here is the 78 GS1000 with the hard ware fitted.

      Krauser frames on GS1000

I have found an old photo of my 1978 GS1000 with the Krausers frames.

The bike on the left is my mates GS750 with my GS1000 on the right.

We are stopped at a road sign in outback NSW Australia near an opal mining town called Lightning Ridge. The year was probably 1980. The Krausers in this photo were replaced by the Pressley's in the previous post. The Pressley's are now on my 1981 GS1000G

        GS1000G with pannier frames

Here is a recent photo of the GS1000G with the Pressley frames which are now over 30 years old.

Thanks a lot. The lower front bracket goes around the outside of the shock.

I might need to make something up to mount the bracket to the foot peg area.

I haven't taken the turn signals off yet.

The hardware weighs a small fraction of the samsonite on my other 1000G.

            Pannier bracket

The lower bracket on my panniers goes around the shock and connects to the rear foot peg loop with a u bolt connection. Crude but it works.

The Pressley panniers were manufactured in South Australia and were a cheaper local copy of the Krausers.

The Krauser frame I had was very light aluminium.

The Pressley's incorporated a connecting arm across from each frame below the bikes rear number plate. This created greater strength and rigidity which the Krauser frame lacked.

Here is the lower frame connected with the u bolt

A tab is used below to connect to the original blinker bracket and the blinkers are relocated to the rear of the frames
