It really depends, if you ride it than its who cares if you call it art not so much.

I dont know about you all but when I am riding my GS I do not see to much of my paint, other than my tank.

I did the home rattle can paint myself, the stencil I made did not work out well and I had to brush most of my graphic after the fact but once I started riding it more I cared less and less about making it look nice.

Yeah, not so hot on a stocker, and an L at that. I think some sort of contrast is necessary to break up the colors a bit. Without too much thinking about it, I would have had the clutch, ignition, stator, sprocket, starter and cam covers done it a semi-gloss black, or maybe a textured black. Probably do the carbs similarly, flat black for the bodies, textured or semi for the tops and bowls. That would draw attention to the best part of the bike, the part that makes it go like stink.

I think it'd look better with the fender on, the fairing looks unfinished without it.

I think you should invest in a Hacksaw, and make it REALLY cool...

But that would require thought, planning and more than five minutes of effort.
Do you think he knocked the mud off before painting?

            Wow!

Well I have to say I am impressed by the passion of the critiques received so far. Bravo! For the few who were positive, thank you. I have to say I was surprised at how strongly people felt about the "lazyiness" issue. I was really out to make it all black and only left the springs unpainted because they looked industrial. That was about it. Did not really overthink it. I still like the way it looks. Mission accomplished. Ride safe everyone!

And keep taking that fiber! It really works . . .

I must be the only one here, but I really like it. Wish my bike looked like that. It looks like you would rather ride the bike for an hour than spend an hour polishing chrome. Personally, if I wanted a beautiful bike with lots of chrome and perfect custom paint I wouldn't have a cheap GS.

The art of a good rat is to spend even less than that. Even better - sell some good parts and make a penny or two.

Even less if you paint with a roller.

I can't figure out why this bike/thread is gaining so much attention. I believe everyone is entitled the their own opinions. But, I would much rather read about a fellow members hard work and dedication in rebuilding or the preservation of his/her GS. Not the fact that someone has decided to spend $4.00 at Walmart and essentially defecate on their bike.

OK, this is my favorite! Almost a pure oxymoron. "I can't understand why you all took the time to do what I just did!"

BTW it was $15 at NAPA. Geeze.
