gauge compatibility - GS550s

Does anyone know if gauges from the 80's models have the same ratio as the older 77-79 ones? I like the size of the 80's (smaller face dia) for my '78 gs550. Are they a direct swap? I dont care about mounting becuase I will be making new brakets . . . just wondering if the ratio, and cables are a straight-up swap. Thanks!

Yes - they swap straight over with the same gearing. I've never compared the wiring though - expect to have to play around with the idiot lights.

Sweet i plan on re-wiring and putting in some LEDs in the faces so that wont be a problem. Just thought I would double check before i buy some. Thanks for the info!
