    sideways plate

I fabbed a license plate hanger that mounted sideways:

I was alerted by a couple very friendly officers that this isn't legal in Michigan. They also informed me of a couple other things I was doing that weren't exactly legal. But, since is was such a nice day, and they didn't want to ruin my ride, they let me go with a warning. Turns out they are a couple of Honda riders.

Anyway, I am bringing this up because I have seen plenty of other riders in Michigan (my cousin being one) with sideways mounted plates, so I assumed they were legal. Well, they're not. So anyone thinking about doing this should check their local laws.

    Hi,

Well, that's inconvenient. At least the LEO was good enough to let you off with a warning. Most of the time the plate has to be lighted too.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

    BassCliff

Yeah, you also need lights. I had them, I just hadn't installed them.

These cops were definitely being cool, and it was more of a "get your bike legal before a less cool cop pulls you over" kind of stop.

I think you may have missed the point behind my post: It's illegal in Michigan.
