Realy? On another thread it was said the frames were the same, at least for the 850.
Don't know why you'd want to, though, I have an L and I wish it was a G.

hmmm...those look pretty close to me...aside from a couple mounting points...looking at those pictures it actually looks possable and maybe not even that hard

EDIT: noticed the tank pivots in the front are slightly back on the L model and it also appears that the screw holes for the back of the tank are set back a bit too...it s the tank the same on these two models just mounted in different spots or are the tanks different...guess ill look at a few pictures and see...doubt this would cause to many problems tho as the seat mounts seem to be in the same spot on the frame

More comfortable with a flatter seat you can move around on, and lower bars with less pullback and a better angle. Also, I think the G model got a 17" rer wheel, which nowadays is easier to find tires for.
I don't like chrome all that much, either.
                          Plus a bigger tank.

The frames look very similar, except for everything you care about. Look carefully at the fender, seat and tank mountings. There are all different. If you manage to bolt in an L's fender, there will be a huge gap at the back of the seat, leaving frame exposed. Mounting of the seat is entirely different. The G hinges on the side, the L is anchored at the front and comes off. If you manage to get an L seat on there, it won't match up against the tank. The tanks are different size, shape, and mounting.

My L is my first bike, and I definitely have an attachment to it. I understand what you mean there. But the effort to switch between G and L or vice versa is much more than the effort of getting and growing attached to a second bike. I'm finding it not at all difficult to form an attachment to a second bike.

If you are going to ride it for very long, you will miss the comfort of the G. The L just looks uncomfortable to me.
