Yep, fairings are great, brackets are bug, heavy & ugly. Guess they suit 95% of what's out there. Wouldn't fit my skunk though (bars are too far away with that riser)1980 GS1000G - Sold

Brackets
Dan what did you attach your brackets to. Looks a whole lot better. I agree the mounts that come with the fairing look like you could mount a windjammer with them. I have my Maier off right now but I am getting ready to put it back on. Also finally getting ready to do the dual pot conversion. Yea I know I am slow. Finally getting some time to work on the bike.80 GS850GT " Are we having fun yet! "

THE MAIER IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE FAIRINGS FOR A GS!!
Do you think that will work!
It's only the mounting brackets I was complaining about, the Maier works great & will be staying put on the skunk & I will be replacing the Givi on the 750 with one too!
Bill - I attached to the 10mm top triple clamp bolt, just removed the washer behind the bolt head & put the spring washer in it's place then used the bracket as the washer for the nut on the other side. Make sure the lower clamp bolts are nice & tight before you do this!!

I got some 1/8" aluminum stock tonight, I'll be fabbing me some fairing mounts tomorrow! I don't know if there are any tricks to selecting the right length but I have some old plumbing strapping that I can use to make 'dummy mounts' for a dry fit. Right now there's twine holding the fairing on and it looks great! No I'm not riding it like that... not riding till I put new sneakers on it in fact."Men will never be free until Mark learns to do The Twist."

I finally got all the brackets made this evening, they look pretty much like what's posted. Aluminum is nice to work with, easy to bend and cut (a 'mess'), but you only get one bend with it before it breaks. I do not see for the life of me how to make the fairing completely stable with only the two upper brackets, it pivots with only them. I did however buy some smaller aluminum stock with the larger 'just in case', and ended up making a small support bracket running from the brake splitter mounting bolt to the bottom of the fairing, it's direct and easier than messing with the headlight bolts. I'll post pics down the road I when I get the bike cleaned up. Maybe a short test ride tomorrow and a bath is in order. Anyway the fairing is quite solid and I can't wait to see what it rides like."Men will never be free until Mark learns to do The Twist."
