    Hi,

We do not have this seat cover but you can hire us to make one for you if you can send us sample seat cover.

    Thank you
    Best Regards,. TC "

Maybe the 550L isnt popular enough for them?
Not quite sure what that means. You might ask for clarification, but keep in mind English is not his native language.

They make a suede cover for the T305, and I saw a 2 tone cover in their store. I don't remember what it fit, but IIRC it was also suede.
Doesn't hurt to ask, and be sure and quote their eBay store which offers a free cover for those they don't currently carry.

Where in their store does it say this?

Click on one of their current covers and go there. Scroll to the bottom and the offer is there. Best of luck.

I picked up a small bottle of a similar product called The Last Glue at the Toronto bike show, that I suspect has the same base (ethyl cyanoacrylate)....the demo was very similar to what you described. I've used it in my car, to stick small tweeters on the dash, and it worked pretty well. In the demo among other things, he cut an auto fan belt in half, stuck it back together with one drop of glue, and invited anyone to pull it apart again, after 5 seconds (needless to say, it was impossible).
Certainly a good idea, esp. after the fact....I hope the seat cover manufacturer can accommodate us with double stitching the problem seams on the new covers too, which should extend the life quite a bit.
Actually, "Tear Repair" is more like a silicone rubber on steroids. I've seen demos for stuff like "The Last Glue," and the stuff I saw was called "Insta Fix." Works very well, but unlike "Tear Repair" it's not flexible.

So I requested the free cover and they responded with,

              Hi,

Yes, we make free seat cover if someone send us a sample but only for popular models. The thing here that over the years of selling, you are the first person whom requested for GS550 seat cover so we are really not confident that this is a popular model that we can make business by producing its seat cover. What do you say?

              Thank you
              Best Regards, TC

Is the GS550L really that unpopular?! How do you think i should respond?

Wow. I guess you could start a Poll and find out, but it sounds like the Free Offer does not apply to such an unpopular bike.
In all honesty, I don't know where you can go from here.

Wow, $50. I guess my $16 was cheap. I sure hope they come out all right.

What is funny is in the last week I have found 4 550L bikes for sell on CL. Now they have all been called "E" but they are actually L. I believe they are just reading the Frame tag which does say E. To say they are unpopular no. But Koolaid also prompted his business deal with I have a group of buyer that would be interested.... which makes it sound popular. Unfortunately I don't think my seat shape other than pan is in original condition or I would say I would take one. Anyway that is my $.02

I just worked a deal with them where they're going to copy both my '83 1100G seat, as well as the '82 GK seat and backrest I have. The G seat is in great overall condition (a few small corner tears repaired) but the GK seat is in sad shape ... I'm psyched to get two new replicas, especially since I'm hoping to hang on to the GK after the G has gone! I'll let you know how it goes with them...

                        Regards,

Cool, at this rate we should have all the GS bikes covered, so to speak.

I've had good luck using Saddlemen in California. They will replicate the oem pattern in stitching. They will also make a pattern for production from a supplied sample. I sent them an old cover that they could use and I got a new replica back about 3 weeks later. IIRC the cost was $65.

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

I did get one for free actually. I paid $65 for an additional one for another bike that they already had one avail for.
