On my 1100gk2, The seems were sewn in not hot pressed. I don't know if this is a common practice, but it seems to make sense to have it look close to oem. In any event I am happy with the results. Also, the price was reasonable. If it don't look oem, who cares, my ass covers it and it's new. lol. Bob

The latest response from Moretti
"Now my brain has got in gear, It would not cost very much for the tooling as the cover has only fluting as the pattern not as I thought as for the GS1000.
The GS1000 is very intricate and has taken me about three weeks to make, looking at the GS1100 it would only take me a couple of days but I would need an original cover to copy."
Anyone know the cost to ship to GB?
I am also awaiting a response from Thailand, who also needs a pattern to go by.

I agree. I received a form letter from Thailand, we'll see how that goes also. No response yet from the UK on my shipping costs question.

Since the covers are being made from scratch, it would be ideal if something could be done to address the inherent problem with the original, in terms of the seam splitting at the front contour.....either eliminating a couple seams in that area, or if that offends the purists, at least reinforcing that location from underneath, where it won't be visible.
I have not heard of the U.K. company, but there are a couple reviews of the Bangkok one, available via Google....generally their repro-covers seem pretty good..... the only criticisms appear to be the location of the rear logo in a couple cases (doesn't apply to us). I'd wait for both vendors to generate a piece price, before pitching the idea of a group/multiple piece buy & discount.
Shipping an original trashed cover to either vendor wouldn't be drastically different in price, I would imagine, but the Pit Replica guys will send you a free cover for your trouble, if that offer still stands.'82 GS1100E

response from sargents
Thanks for contacting Sargent Cycle.
We will not be able to offer an exact duplicate, we do offer replacement seat covers, the seating imprint will be different and there will not be a logo on the back of the seat.
I have seen their cover. It is nicely done, but no where near an original.
Looks like a US source is drying up. Awaiting a U.K. address.

Both the US companies said "go away". I wonder why we are losing business overseas.
I'll be sending my covers away. Count me as disappointed.

Might be worth trying these guys. I bought a replica Honda 750 cover from them last year and it was spot on for a copy but pass on the 1100. They list your bike as well.
The vinyl on the 750 was a bit lacking in 'stretchability' like some others which was a bit disappointing - made it hard to get a nice finish - but it did look good when done.79 GS1000S
79 GS1000S (another one)
80 GSX750
80 GS550
80 CB650 cafe racer
75 PC50 - the one with OHV and pedals...
75 TS100 - being ridden (suicidally) by my father

X 2
I was just in China and saw the factories of more than 20 American, European and Japanese companies during a two-hour drive from Shanghai to Suzhou. Every name you can imagine and a few I hadn't heard of... The Chinese even had an iPhone4 knock-off available for sale a month BEFORE the real one was launched.
Hopefully one of these two sources will offer a good replica cover. If they do, I'm in for 2 for my '82E, I'd also like 2 for my '80E but I'm probably alone with that request. Maybe some of the other '80 or '81 1100E or 750E owners would be willing to do a group buy on them

This is in work. I found a company willing to make an exact duplicate. It requires some work on my end, which will start as soon as I return from the Red River Rally.
I will update the thread as things progress.

I will post on a source for orginal cover copies. I apologize, but recent events have sidetracked me. We should be able to get real copies of the originals when all is done.
Peace to all.

Thanks for keeping after this, speaking for myself I can say I really appreciate all of the effort you're putting into locating and sourcing replacement covers for the rest of us!!
