look what I did to the tank emblems

A quick shot of aircraft remover and a scuff of sand paper (letters were scuffed allready)

Still deciding on how to paint, probably model paint and a brush

I cleaned all the old paint off of mine by an overnight soak in lacquer thinner, decided to leave them as is, no paint.

You could mask it with enough patience, then shoot it with flat black. Something to do while the TV makes noise. Or while other people make noise. I've seen Rose do it to an ignition cover with good results while we... What were we doing? Anyhow, she just sat down with tape and a knife and did it.

I'm afraid model paint would fill in the texture between the letters. Well, you could thin it, I guess.

That actually looks pretty cool! But it depends on your bikes color scheme.

I think they look cool but defiantly dont go with the bike. Ive got an idea Im going to try right now and see what comes of it. If nothing else I know how to strip it really quickly.

I vote tape and an exacto knife. We did it on the tank emblems for the 750 and they turned out very nice.

              Here they are now.

sprayed with flat black and then sanded off the letters.

Im thinking about filling in the lines in the centers of the letters with a color.

Looks nice. But did the paint cover up the texture of the emblems?

nope, not at all. I used spray paint, Dogma was talking about model paint that I mentioned (in the little jar) filling up the texture.

i actually went with a metallic bronze craft paint on the letters, and re-blacked the negative areas inbetween. my tank is painted gloss black, and the bronze emblem stands out, and (imho) looks sharp as hell! covered the whole thing with clear gloss sealer.

go to micheals (or whatever craft store) they have eleventy billion different colors of paint, and tons of metallic shades too. lots of good ideas.

An easy way to paint those are to clean them as you have, lightly spray them with paint, wait 15 minutes, wrap a rag around a finger tip tightly, dip it into thinner and wipe the letters clean. Black paint and texture remains.
