Yea, same parts. No cracks on the side covers but had one on the tail. Fixed it with epoxy glue and a fiberglass patch.
In my experience painting is not hard, but it's hard work. You need to work fast since the primer should be top coated within seven days. A solid color paint job is no problem but one like this, with all the masking, can become a frantic experience trying to get it all done on time. At any rate, now that the first layers of clear are down the rush is over.
And speaking of masking and tape lines, I bought a graphics kit from Reproduction Decals which makes the project easier. The stripes are white/black side by side, and go down over the top of the color transitions. A little paint bleed though or if the masking is slightly off position doesn't matter since the stripes will cover it all up.

This will prevent tape marks when doing multiple color overlays and also prevents the metallic from adhering to the tape when pulled.

New question for the painters...
Mishap mentioned above resulted in the need to reshoot the white on one of the side covers. The cover was cleared and color sanded. If fresh base coat is sprayed over the semi-fresh clear will it lift? I'm thinking it will but not sure. If so, do I have to lay down another primer layer before adding base coat or buy a sealer product of some kind before proceeding? Any help welcome.Ed

I've experienced lifting before when shooting base on sanded clear and was reading on some auto body forums where if you sand though the clear, or make the clear too thin, then the solvents in the base coat can bite into the thin edges of the clear and cause it to lift. On the side cover I had to sand it down pretty hard to remove my bo-bo and wound up cutting though the clear in a few spots. Shot the primer/sealer, waited a couple of hours, sanded it down and shot the base - no lifting. I'm good now. Just need to sand the base after it drys and hit it with some clear. I ran out of reducer so the clear is going to have to wait a couple of days. They say you should clear within 24 hours but I'm not sure this is super important because the base coat is soft and the clear will bite in no problem in my experience (at least this is what I'm thinking right now).Ed
