I took it for a psin today was smoking when i set up but when i came back after ten mins, seemed to have cleared up so maybe valve seals after all

Adjust the valves and check the compression - if the compression is good= valve seals

A good way to tell if it's genuine '80 "S" is whether it has rear set pegs or not.
