    I took it for a psin today was smoking when i set up but when i came back after ten mins, seemed to have cleared up so maybe valve seals after all

      Valve seals are most likely

      Adjust the valves and check the compression - if the compression is good= valve seals

      If it doesn't suck much oil, just ride it until you replace them (can be replaced w/o tearing down the motor)

        A good way to tell if it's genuine '80 "S" is whether it has rear set pegs or not. The easy clue is whether it has a linkage/rod for the gear shifter or the shifter just attached directly to the shifter shaft like on your "G".
