Fenders, handle bar, and "hand pillion" in bad shape

So I have an 81 gs450L and I'm the slow but steady process of fixing it up. The front and rear fenders have quite a bit of rust and scratches as well as the handle bar and hand pillion. I tried to find replacements, but sadly they don't make them any more. I looked into getting them re-chromed, but the price is just way to much for my budget. So I was wondering if there are after market parts (chrome) that will fit my bike, or if there is an alternative to getting the original parts re-chromed. I was thinking of getting some chrome spray paint, but I don't want the stuff to flake off after a couple months. Any ideas on where I can buy new parts/refurbish my own?

Try scrubbing down the rusty chrome with aluminum foil.

I will have to try that. The grab bar and rear fender are in "ok" condition, but the handle bar and front fender are pretty bad. Will it still shine up with the foil?

Try it and see. Just wad it up in a ball and scrub. Then try the foil and some WD-40.

Don't worry about the "chrome" spray paint.

It's really just a shiny silver, doesn't look anything like chrome.

Thats what I thought, but I wasn't sure if there was some high end brand that I could buy at a car paint store.
