Best clear coat to use on NOS part?

I got lucky and got a hold of one of these:

What should I spray over the factory paint that will not harm it before I install it?

    TIA,

    Daniel

Why do you want to spray it? Finish looks pretty good as is. To maximize gloss you could polish it a little using some finish glaze or fine grade polishing compound, followed by wax.

That pic, is out of box with plenty of fingerprints.
I want to KEEP it looking nice BEFORE waxing.
Any recommendations that DOES NOT REACT to the factory paint?

      Thanks,

      Daniel

Something two part urethane. DuPont Imron

        This would work great....

I use DuPont Chromaclear for all my custom paint work. I've used it over my really pristine 30 year old honda CB750SS because I just repaired a small area where some brake fluid attacked the clear from the PO.

Just scuff with red scotch brite pad wipe with a good Prepsol and spray.
Then just wet sand and buff.

This is before wet sanding and buffing.

That makes TWO of us. The Dupont Chromaclear is without a doubt, THE BEST clear that I have EVER sprayed. I started painting when the base/clear process just began. I've shot them all and STRONGLY suggest the Chromaclear!!!

Here is one that I shot, two years ago:

And this little devil, this year:

Thanks for all of the GOOD advise guys!
As I will be repainting the rest of the bike, I will go with the Chromaclear for CERTAIN!

              Simply FANTASTIC!!!

with the quality of the modern clears, I think a little clear over the OEM color is a great idea.

Wow chromaclear, I'm there. BUT, what about us poor folks on shoe string budgets who used rattle cans to paint, I painted my tank with Laquer but as the fine foilks here stated it is soft and I have a chip already. I wanted to use something likie this.
SprayMax now offers a 2 part (2K) Urethane Aerosol Clear Coat. This 2k urethane Clear Coat spray has a much higher U.V. and weather resistance than any standard aerosol clearcoat on the market today.

The paint has been done for a year as the bike has been sitting. will this work, and do I have to scuff my paint to spray it on it. Thanks sorry for the hijack.

Definitely scuff. Best to test a small section before attempting the clear job to make sure the materials are compatible. The 2k clear will increase chemical resistance to gas spills but won't do much for chip protection since you already have soft base layers.

Sherwin Williams automotive paint is good AND affordable, but ditto what Nunzio said, DuPont is by far the best.
