how do i bend stripes - argh

Hi, I am currently painting the wes cooley fairing, I have cope to the black stipe bit.

I can buy black striping from an auto shop but when I try and curve it it just bubbles, and twists.

I know I can buy the deals but, just lost my job so money is tight. is there any advice?

im no expert but try warming the stripe before fitting or use a hair dryer to warm it as you are applying. assuming you are using good quality stripes

3M make a striping tape, it's blue in color, comes in various widths, and is designed to curve. I've been using it to lay out flames for years. You should be able to get it at any auto parts store. Use it to lay out the stripe, back mask, and paint the stripe on.

You have to stretch the strip tape to get it to curve, only the width of the fairing stripes are quite fat (1cm?) so I'm sure it's going to be quite a challenge, if it's possible at all. Might be easier to use fine line tape to define the stripe shape and paint it instead. Lots of masking involved but doable if you have patients.

Does the striping have clear protective tape over that you're supposed to peel off after it's installed? If so, you just about have to peel it off before bending it. What I've done for tight bends with double pinstriping, is to take off the clear plastic and install one stripe at a time.
